Choosing an electrical contractor for a housing development

The electrical package on a housing scheme affects your programme, your compliance and your handover dates. Here's what to look for.

Choosing an electrical contractor for a housing development

Can they resource every phase?

Ask how many electricians they can put on site and how they handle overlapping phases. A contractor who can't scale will hold up second fix and handover.

Do they understand Part L and NZEB?

Modern schemes need heat pumps, solar PV and EV provision designed in. Your electrical contractor should be comfortable with all three and with the certification each requires.

Will they manage ESB Networks?

Supply applications, ducting and meter cabinets can delay connections. An experienced contractor coordinates these early.

What do handover files look like?

Ask to see a sample certification pack. Complete, organised paperwork makes sign-off and sales far smoother.
